Portrait

What is a self portrait? A pictorial or literary portrait of oneself, created by oneself.

Taking a self portrait is no longer known as a 'Portrait'. Todays society call it a 'Selfie'.

Therefore i present to you a series of fun self portraits. Taken using a sheet backdrop

*Pictorialism

Taken using a thick transparent sheet of plastic reflecting the sun set 

An approach to photography that emphasises a different perspective of a subject, creating a beautiful tonality and composition rather than the documentation of reality. The pictorials'  perspective was acknowledged in the late 1860's (19th century) towards the first decade of the 20th century. It approaches the camera as a tool that can be mistaken for a paintbrush affect/out of focus image creating mood and movement to manipulate the mind into thinking this image is an artistic statement; Drawing, sketch or painting.

With a rough idea of what 19th and 20th century pictorial images looked like, I decided to explore and create tools to manipulate an image to look like a painting.

Taken using a plastic bag over my lens and then shooting through a frosted glass window

Taken through a tinted piece of plastic capturing the sunset against the tree

With this image i painted over a plastic bag once attached to my lens creating an abstract affect 

As the sun was setting against the trees i used a thick sheet of plastic to cover my lens which ended up  reflecting light

An orchid my mum has in the garden. I took this image using a  frosty plastic over the lens

My garden in a pictorial themed photograph. To achieve  this image i used layers of cling wrap to create a blurry affect.
